One’s posture is very important in conveying the personality and confidence of a person. - Maintain a good balance and center of gravity
The spine has normal curvature on the thoracic and lumbar area. As a result, it is impossible to make the back super straight. A good posture does not need a straight back, but it should have a good support. The feet are the one that supports the body. When standing, keep your feet 12 inches (1 foot) apart. This makes you more stable and ensures a good posture.
- Align different areas of the body
Stand with the mirror in either of your side. Make sure that when you stand, the ears, shoulders and hips are in line with each other. This prevents the chest from assuming an overly chest out position.
Exercise is very essential in improving the posture. Exercises that focus on the shoulders and the back specifically improve the posture. Exercises include:
- Align the ears with the shoulders. Raise the hand at the sides in shoulder level. Raise and lower down the hands in counts of ten. This exercise strengthens the shoulder muscles and prevents the dropping of the shoulders.
- Align the ears with the shoulders. Raise the hand on the side at shoulder level and flex the forearm to touch the shoulder blade. Do this in counts of ten. The mechanism involved is synonymous to the first exercise.
- Touch the shoulders with the elbows on the sides. Raise and lower the elbows like the flaps of the penguins. This also prevents dropping of the shoulders while standing, sitting or walking.
- Get a massage
Posture is sometimes affected when the back muscles are tensed. This condition leads to slouching or a kyphotic posture. Back massage relieves tension and relaxes the back muscles for an improved posture.
- Get a chiropractic care
Chiropractic involves the manipulation of the spine in order to improve the curvature.
